Fractional Laser Resurfacing

Hair Growth

Hair growth is susceptible to being reduced only during the active growing (anagen) phase. Hair follicles cycle through three phases during growth, and unfortunately, not all follicles are in the same stage at the same time. In order to target all of the hair during its active growing phase, multiple interval treatments are necessary.

How Does Laser Treatment Work?

The focused light beam is selectively attracted to dark pigment located within the hair shaft and in the base of the hair follicle. Therefore, the darker and coarser the hair, the more responsive it is to laser treatment. Blonde, gray or red hair, and hair that is fine in texture may respond, but to a lesser degree. Also, hormonal activity and certain medicines stimulate excessive hair growth.

Are All Hair Removal Lasers the Same?

No. There are many different lasers that can target pigment (melanin) in the hair shaft and follicle.

However, different lasers have different effectiveness. As a laser research and testing center, we have access to virtually all types of lasers. The Cynosure (Alexandrite) laser we use in EpiCentre is the most effective hair reduction laser available.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

It is important to recognize that lasers can significantly reduce hair growth, but they do not stop all hair growth forever. Different people get different degrees of response. An initial series of six treatments, spaced at four week intervals is usually necessary.

Is it "permanent" - Will I Need Continued Treatment?

The FDA will not allow us to say "permanent removal" only "permanent reduction." With each treatment the hair grows back lighter and finer. We recommend 6 treatments because your hair grows in different stages. This will ensure that all layers and the different growing stages will be covered.

Depending on your hair type and skin, you may have to come back periodically for some touch ups or maintenance. Such interval maintenance treatments are necessary to maintain the maximum lifetime benefit. However, laser treatment is still much longer lasting and much less painful than alternate methods, such as waxing or electrolysis.

Can it remove blonde, gray or white hair?

No it can’t. All lasers have to have a "target" and the lighter colors virtually have no color, therefore the laser has nothing to "target" (to see).

Pregnant or trying to get pregnant?

It is our policy not to treat pregnant patients. However if your OB-GYN approves, it will be considered.

I have a darkened skin tone - Can I still have laser?

In most cases, yes. We are very experienced in working with skins of all colors. All of our treatments must be Doctor approved before beginning any kind of treatment.

What kind of Lasers do you use?

We use the finest and the most up to date lasers. Our Doctors are constantly visiting with laser representatives and attending trade shows to verify that we have the safest and newest lasers in our clinic. Nothing is purchased before the staff has had a chance to try and experiment with the lasers.
